Reviews and comparisons of tractors and equipment, focused on what actually holds up over time rather than spec sheets. Covers compact and utility tractors across the major brands, plus the parts and tools worth buying once.
Most lists of tractor models to avoid boil down to somebody’s opinion of a brand, and that doesn’t help much when you’re standing in a seller’s yard with cash in your pocket. In April 2026, AgWeb reported a 2011 Kubota M9540 with 4,524 hours bringing in $45,650 at auction, the second-highest price on record for…
Figuring out what size bush hog you need for a 40 HP tractor sounds like a five-second lookup, but the number that actually decides it isn’t the one stamped on your tractor’s hood. Getting it wrong means either a cutter that bogs down in anything thicker than pasture grass, or a gearbox that doesn’t survive…
What counts as high hours on a tractor depends far more on the tractor than on the hours. A twenty-year-old row-crop machine with 8,000 hours and a shoebox full of service receipts can be a smarter buy than a five-year-old compact with 900 hours that sat outside all winter and got started twice a month….
Type “compact tractor brands to avoid” into Google and you’ll get the same three or four names recycled across a dozen sites, usually with no real reason attached beyond an angry thread from 2019. The more useful question isn’t which badge to avoid — it’s who actually built the machine wearing that badge, and whether…
Ask ten farmers to name the most reliable tractor brands, and you’ll get ten confident, half-contradicting answers. Here’s the thing nobody says out loud: there’s no real reliability data for farm tractors. Consumer Reports scores riding lawn mowers, not the machine hauling your bush hog. The ranking everybody quotes is a consumer trust survey —…
Finding the best tractor battery isn’t as simple as walking into a dealer and pointing at whatever’s on the shelf, and in 2026 it matters more than it used to. Tariffs are reshaping battery prices; more owners are switching to AGM or even lithium batteries, and a dead battery doesn’t just mean a jump-start —…
The most reliable utility tractor conversation gets muddy fast, mostly because most of what gets written about tractor reliability is really about compact tractors — the 25-to-40 HP machines mowing pasture and running loaders on 10-acre properties. Cross into true utility tractor territory, 40 HP and up, and the answer shifts: different brands lead, different…
The best utility tractor for your operation in 2026 isn’t just a question of horsepower and brand loyalty anymore — it’s about timing, tariffs, and whether you can even find a utility tractor sitting on a dealer’s lot. Farmers who’ve been running the same worn-out workhorse for fifteen years are finding that stepping up to…
If you’ve started shopping for a tractor diagnostic scanner this year, you’ve probably run into something frustrating pretty fast: the scanner that works fine on your truck does next to nothing once you plug it into the tractor. That’s not a bad scanner, and it’s not you doing something wrong — it’s because farm equipment…
The best compact tractor question used to be simple — pick orange or green, ask your neighbor, go to the closest dealer. Not anymore. Tariffs are still working their way into sticker prices, and financing rates aren’t doing buyers any favors. This piece walks through what’s actually changed this year, what manufacturers just put on…
